Hello,

a bit about me:

When I first came to ACLC 2 years ago, I was a pretty shy kid. I still am shy, but being here at Aclc has really helped me develop into someone who is true to them-self. The diverse set of opinions at ACLC has broadened my view of the world, showing me that the world is mine to conquer.

Personal qualities

At ACLC, students are given room to do what they feel is important to their academic lives. Being given the opportunity to take my learning into my own hands has allowed to utilize my time wisely. There were times that I spent my project periods goofing around with friends, but as a result, my grades have suffered. Whether I choose to utilize my time or waste it ends up reflecting on my own character and integrity. The ability to manage time wisely is something that is highly valued by employers.  Though there are many more qualities that employers look for, it shows that I’m on the right track to employment.

New Basics

Writing was always something that I always enjoyed doing. I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it's a passion of mine, but I do enjoy it. Writing allows me to mull thoughts over and translate them to text. I recall doing an assignment for Molly Fenn’s class which had us write poetry that related to the Beat Generation. I don’t particularly remember what I wrote about, but I do remember being excited to do homework for once. The ability to rehash thoughts is particularly useful to me as I’m not the most talkative person. The past years at Aclc have allowed me to learn useful things that helped me gain a stronger command of the English language.

Thinking and Reasoning skills

As a young adult, I will soon be required to go out into this adventurous world of ours and figure things out for myself. Here at Aclc, the fundamentals of being able to understand and solve issues are ingrained in each student. Whether it's math, which will help students manage their finances; or science, which will provide students with an understanding if the natural world, Aclc has got you every step of the way. Thinking and reasoning is limited to academics here: the wide array of backgrounds here will introduce you to the various ways problems can be analyzed and tackled.

Interpersonal skills

At one point, I use to be rather brash and self-centered. This manifested into doing things like espousing controversial views, not necessarily because I believed them, but because I found it entertaining to wind people up. Luckily, around 10th grade, I found out that you can’t go around irking people off and expect them to want to socialize with you. That being said, this doesn’t mean that I’ve completely abandoned all independent thought in order to please people, I’ve just gotten rid of my childhood antics and have become aware that what I say has real world consequences. This sentiment is something that I picked up by participating in classes like leadership and extracurricular activities like PIE Robotics and Interact club.

Technology

In the past decade alone, humans have gone from keypad mobiles to drones; the evolution of technology doesn’t seem as if it will stop anytime soon. This requires me to adapt to the ever evolving tech landscape. My adaptation can be seen in the daily use of laptops and printers to complete homework assignments. My use of technology doesn’t just extend to professional use, but also recreational: I’ve learned to use programs such as Reason, which is a music making application, and use it with electronic keyboard to make catchy beats.

I can say that I am glad to be the person the person I am today. These past years have allowed me to develop into the tech savvy socialite that I am today.
